Latest Scan at 32w5d

So yesterday I had my final look at JellyBean before he/she is born. We went for an ultrasound at Monash hospital to see JellyBean's size and position.

JellyBean is a little camera shy, as when the sonographer went to take a photo of the face, JellyBean turned away! Luckily the sonographer was quick and we got 1 good photo of JellyBean's head side on.

We also got to see JellyBean moving and breathing. JellyBean currently weighs approximately 4lb14oz (2.2kg) and is in the 70th percentile for growth. He/she is head down and facing backwards, looks like it is getting ready to say hello to us all!

Pregnancy and Birth Classes

Well, tonight will be our last in a series of 5 pregnancy and birthing classes. We have covered a series of topics from pain relief, regular birth, birthing complications, breastfeeding and tonight is care of the newborn. We also had a tour of the birthing suites and maternity ward.
Last week, in breastfeeding class, the guys who were absent from the week before (which we were) were asked to put on the 'Empathy Belly" - a pregnancy brace for Dad's to be to experience some of the weight of pregnancy.
Peter tried to get out of wearing it, and ended up having to wear it for the rest of the class!
We also learnt HEAPS about breastfeeding, watched a really interesting video on how to breastfeed and got to practice positioning a baby using dolls. Even the guys had to have a go at positioning their babies!
Tonight we should be learning how to change nappies, dress and bathe baby so I will take my camera along again.
I will upload photos of the breastfeeding class tomorrow with tonight's photos.

Stubborn Little S**t!

So, it has become sort of a routine that when I am ready to go to sleep, DH comes in and says goodnight to me and JellyBean. JellyBean is usually quite active at this time of night and DH puts his hand on my stomach until JellyBean 'kicks' him good night.
Well, last night, JellyBean was REALLY active, lots of hiccups and kicking. As soon as DH put his hand on my stomach, JellyBean stopped kicking! DH held his hand there for a while, whilst saying goodnight to JellyBean, and telling him/her to stop being rude and say goodnight back!
We were both speaking to JellyBean, trying to get a kick for DH to feel. I told JellyBean that it was being a stubborn little s**t and JellyBean responded with the biggest kick I have ever felt! The kick was immediately after I said it and DH and I couldn't help but laugh for ages. No more kicks for the rest of the night though!

28 week check up

Yesterday was our 28 week obstetrician check up. I got all my blood test results back and don't have Gestational Diabetes, my Vitamin D levels are good and all my other blood tests came back perfect. My blood pressure is also within normal range so good news all round.
JellyBean's heartbeat was 138bpm, nice and steady. My uterus is measuring at 33 weeks so all is on track.
JellyBean has been pretty active lately, lots of kicking, especially at 5am when it is really hard kicks! DH has been able to feel the kicks more regularly which is nice as they get a bit of bonding as well!
We have organised the baby shower for the 18th of June and my last day of work will be the 8th of July. Only 82 days left until due date....... eek! We have asked everyone coming to the baby shower to write a letter for JellyBean to open on their 18th birthday. I hope everyone remembers and JellyBean can have a nice treaseure chest full of memories, wishes and hopes.
JellyBean's room is mostly set up, the cot and basinet have been put up, the pram has been put together and all the toys and clothes are in there (just chucked in the cot for the moment). I plan on starting the task of washing all the clothes, blankets etc this weekend and putting them away in the drawers, ready for JellyBean's arrival. We are picking up the changing table, monitor and a few other bits and pieces on Thursday then just have to get a few bottles and wait and see what we get at the shower. We don't plan on having too many clothes until after JellyBean is born so that we can pick out some nice gender specific outfits.

So, I have had trouble keeping up with blogs, why did I think this one would be any different??? LOL
Here is what has been happening in the land of the JellyBean......
  • I first felt JellyBean moving on the 19th February. Was just little flutters and rolls but I knew exactly who it was!
  • I had my 20 week scan and everything is going well. JellyBean is measuring a little ahead, but as all babies grow at different rates, this is to be expected. We didn't want to find out the sex. We want a nice surprise on the day.
  • The kicks have been getting stronger, so strong a few times that I have doubled over in pain! At least I know everything is ok in there.
  • I had a day where I didn't feel any kicks at all, even though I tried everything to get JellyBean to move, no such luck. Rang the maternity ward at Monash who advised me that everything was probably ok, but I could come in for reassurance if I want. So DH and I bundled up (its getting cold in Melbourne) and at 10.30 pm on Wednesday 13th April, went to the hospital. The midwife was waiting for us and everything checked out ok. We got to hear JellyBean's heartbeat for the first time! It was so precious, knowing our little one was ok and getting to hear the heart beating steadily at 146bpm! Well worth the hassle of going to the hospital. The midwife was so nice, and told me to come back in any time I need reassurance. We were home and in bed within an hour of leaving home.
  • Morning sickness has gone, dizziness, indigestion, forgetfulness and boils have arrived! I have boils mostly under my arms, caused by hormones, that will hopefully disappear after JellyBean is here. With the way things are going, JellyBean will be an only child! (although I really want 2!)
  • Today I am 24 weeks! Yay, only 16 more weeks to go.
Here is JellyBean's face profile at 20 weeks 4 days:

Hopefully I will be able to keep up the posts a little more regularly.

Morning Sickness Part 2

Well the morning sickness shows no sign of abating, rather it has been getting worse. Last night I ended up in hospital for 6 hours on a drip due to dehydration because of the vomiting. Today I feel a lot better and am hoping I stay this way.
Apparently morning sickness disappears between weeks 12 and 14 so if the sickness does continue, hopefully it will be gone in a few weeks.
We have got the referral for the 12 week scan which I will call and book in tomorrow. I can't wait to hear the heartbeat and see little JellyBean, hopefully moving around.
We decided on names last night but shhhhh....... I'm not telling!
